Nathan and I have been brainstorming a bit on how to make the game a) involve more people and b) involve those people for a longer period of time and with more enjoyment.

We’re going to change the game around a bit to center on the collection of cards or tokens worth varying numbers of points, but the locations will still be cryptically given as HaiClues(TM). There will likely be more clues over a longer time—we’re thinking the two months of July and August—with some of the lesser valued, “starter” cards at local businesses.

We would like to involve the local business community if for no other reason than $50 out of our pocket is not the most enticing of pay-offs for playing a game for a couple months. The players in games past did it mostly for the joy of playing and took the time to try hard. We know most people don’t have the time to devote to tracking down the clues as soon as they emerge, so we would like to make the game more enticing by offering more prizes and accomplishments—hence, local business involvement.

Now to the meat of this particular post: If you are associated with a local business and want to participate, please let us know by sending a direct message to @hsvsh on twitter or emailing us at admin@hsvsh.org And by “participate,” we mean display a card or small box of cards for patrons we will lead to your door, and hopefully offer a small reward or two for the prize pool.

Clues to cards placed at businesses will generally be easier to solve and will be the lowest point values, so if you’re a non-commercial purist, you can still play and compete by beating other players to the limited-number higher-point cards placed elsewhere. There will likely be achievements for certain collections (i.e. collecting all restaurant cards), so there will be multiple goals to reach apart from being the overall winner.

If you have any comments, we would like to hear them!

After the first couple weeks, Nathan and I thought it would be a runaway with for Team Kunavupants, but two critical misses in the third and fourth week opened the door for a comeback by the other teams. The top four teams finished like so:

Team Kunavupants: 47 points

Team BearsOfTheAir: 40 points

Jacob Schreiber: 37 points

Team Omegix: 35 points

We were wondering if the Kunavupants newlyweds have a life outside of work and this game, but hey – we’re really glad all of you guys were so into the game. We had fewer teams this time, but all of you were more fervent than Game 1, by far. Somewhere in here is a good match of accessibility for a low barrier-to-entry and enticement for thoroughly enjoying the game and learning more about our city. If you have any questions about the items from this game, they’re listed in order on the Google map. Also all entries along with answers are posted in our picture section.

Nathan, others and I have been talking, drinking, talking some more, eating late night snacks, drinking and talking some more about the possible game play of the next game. We might move more toward a clue-leads-to-the-next-clue type of game, probably with the aid of the winners of this game, Team Kunavupants. They’ve expressed interest in helping run the next game with us….which, frankly, give the rest of Huntsville a chance at winning. We have a lot of ideas, and we’ll kick them around enough to bruise them and see which ones hold up. If you have any ideas about the type of game, scoring, rules, etc., please send Nathan or me a message through the entry@hsvsh.org address outlining your idea.
